If last year's 'Gunk' was steeped in Midwest basement noise, Esper Werm's second tape for Reserve Matinee 'Unconsc Pleth' plays more like a Pierre Schaffer record in an art gallery in Paris. Or a fucked up motel.

The sound design and mixing alone make this tape a truly captivating collection of tracks. The sampling decisions are inventive and incredibly fresh, the work of someone who clearly listens to a lot of music, experimental or not. It all boils down to the heightened experience. This is music for elevation.

"3" sounds like a gorgeously minimal study in software synthesis, with Lázár-esque popsicle licks that trot along in constant movement. In "5" the Werm tickles you and reminds you that they're still capable of face/gut-splitting zones, a laugh in your ear.

Available on pink cassettes with shell markings made by the artist.
