Shadows is Cleveland duo David Russell and Wyatt Howland, two Midwest artists who need no introduction. Both veterans of the infamous Cleveland (and beyond) noise era of the mid-2000s, Russell and Howland take to an exciting new sound with the Shadows project, and 'Black Cassette IV' is a spectacular demonstration.

Filled with molten shrapnel, industrial-bent drum machine and other distorted sounds, Black Cassette IV is an engaging and intriguing collaboration in that it contains neutral characteristics of both Skin Graft and David Russell Snake/Collapsed Arc. Aside from the occasional Graftian assault, the tracks have a way of moving straight through you without declaration of either voice. The result of two friends who have worked together and known each other for years. Side B introduces vocals by Wyatt's sister Amanda Howland, her signature close-mic'd, spell-binding voice thrown into a pile of steel that the duo have prepared.
